September 21, 2021, StPLC Events Update
Election Of Congregation Council This Sunday
All confirmed members of Saint Peter Lutheran Church are requested to join us for a special meeting of the congregation following our 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday (September 26). The purpose of the meeting is to elect four members to the Congregation Council as the terms for four members ended in 2021. Stay on the Zoom line after worship to help conduct this important church business.
Church Chicks Tie Dye Potluck On Saturday
The Church Chicks invite you to an outdoor tie-dye design class and salad potluck on Saturday, September 25th. The event is taking place in Annie’s backyard beginning at 10:00 a.m. (lunch begins at noon).
Sign up for tie-dye, lunch or both of the day’s events on this Signup Genius.
If you have a white cotton shirt, apron, banner, or any other white cotton fabric (pale colors are also acceptable) that you would like to transform into a work of art, please deliver it to Annie's no later than Thursday, September 23rd. Canvas bags and Church Chicks aprons will be available for those who need a project.
Contact Annie, Jo or Dori with questions.
Tortilla Curtain Book Discussion On Saturday
Convicting and uncomfortable but full of real struggles, real emotions, and the diversity of human experiences,Tortilla Curtain by T.C. Boyle is perhaps most notable in that it was written in 1995 and essentially, nothing has changed in 26 years. Told from wildly varying perspectives(a progressive white man with lots to lose, his superficial wife, a middle-aged Mexican migrant worker, and his deep-thinking, long-suffering, and heartbreakingly naive child bride), it is very hard to put down even as you see things are headed downhill.
Let's discuss how we see ourselves in the various characters and what lessons we can learn from their mistakes and their graces. Join the Faith in Action team Saturday, September 25th on the Labyrinth at 6:30 p.m. (with citronella!) to discuss. The Faith In Action team chose this book in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 - Oct. 15). The book has a few immigration and environmental themes as well. RSVP to fia@stplc.org. See you there!
Faith In Action’s Focus On The Environment
This week’s featured tip: Clean up your digital footprint.
Every time you use the internet, you release CO2. We aren’t saying you have to go off the grid, but try to bring more mindfulness to your use by cleaning up your email inbox, downloading any videos that you stream frequently, and signing up for a green browser extension like WeHero: https://www.wehero.co/herotab/.

Miss Mary’s Featured Picture Book: The Lorax
This book is an oldie but a goodie and has withstood the test of time. Kids, ask your parents if they remember reading this classic when they were little. Maybe you have an old copy at home. It sure is available at our public libraries.
Parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles and anyone who loves kids and the Earth, grab this book and read it again with someone you love. If it’s been a while, here’s a reminder: this is an inspiring story of the power of One! One child makes a difference. One seed that makes a difference. It is full of hope and a reminder to NEVER take our God-given Earth for granted. And guess what? It is printed on recycled paper!
Still Time Donate To Selian’s Plaster House
Saint Peter is collecting items for children recovering from surgeries at The Plaster House in Tanzania through the end of September. Leave your donations of undies, socks, leggings, and art supplies in the bin outside the east door at Saint Peter.
Sign Up For LIFT (Living in Faith Together) Small Groups
Thank you to all who attended last Sunday’s “infomercial” and Q&A session with Miss Mary on the new LIFT Small Groups beginning in October. The signup form is now available here.
And if you missed last Sunday, no worries! Look for details about these new inter-generational small groups in this week’s Our Life Together and in an email coming from Miss Mary later this week.
Saint Peter Notecard Ministry Needs Writers
Do you enjoy writing notes to people who are experiencing challenges? Do you love to receive notes? You may be a great fit for Saint Peter’s notecard ministry! Karen Clair began a Christ-centered ministry a couple of years ago and it is still thriving, but additional notecard writers are needed!
The thing is, we are experiencing unprecedented times, and there are many who could use a pick-me-up in the form of mail - more requests than we have writers to handle! Please prayerfully consider if this could be a good fit for you. If it is, Karen will provide you with the names of people who would enjoy the encouragement. All you have to do is write a note reminding them they are loved and are being lifted up in prayer!
Any questions? Just ask Karen Clair.
Rainbow Trail Grace Race Saturday, October 2nd
Every year, Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp hosts The Grace Race to fight world hunger. Last year we had to go virtual, but this year we will be back in Sloan’s Lake Park again. This is our 15th year to offer this race. We are running/walking the afternoon of Saturday, October 2nd.
Over the past fourteen years, RTLC has raised over $71,000 in net proceeds for the ELCA World Hunger Appeal. All the details about the Grace Race can be found at www.rainbowtrail.org/special-events/the-grace-race-5k/
Day-of race registration opens at 2:30 p.m. with the race beginning at 4:00 p.m. There is now a Fleetest Flock traveling trophy that goes to the congregation that has the most participants. Last year, Augustana Lutheran in Denver narrowly beat out Cross of Christ Lutheran in Broomfield to capture the trophy.
Let's bring lots of Saint Peter folks and capture some hardware!
