THE MUSIC BASH WAS A SMASH!

Over 50 folks gathered in the labyrinth on August 4 to enjoy great food, fellowship, and music. It was a beautiful way to worship together in a casual, friendly, outdoor setting. Thanks to the remarkable tech team and the setup crew for making this event possible! The Music Ministry welcomes requests. Have a tune you’d like to hear on Sunday? Email Beryl Fanslow Wilson (bfanslow@stplc.org) with your catalog suggestions.

CHOIR REHEARSALS START SEPT 6 @ 7 P.M.

No experience necessary! Kids 10 and older are welcome with an adult. On the fence? Take choir for a test drive! Come to rehearsal on August 16 at 7 p.m. to prepare music for the August 20th service. Beginner-friendly music. Email Beryl (bfanslow@stplc.org) with questions.

GOLFING FOR LFS

This year the StPLC council allocated funds to be one of the sponsors of Tee Off for Hope, the annual golf tournament to help raise funds for the programs sponsored by LFS. Team members Cindy Snow, Jeanne Maloney, Valerie Watkins and Lynn Sherpe participated on July 31.

The event featured 80 players who enjoyed a day of fellowship and fun at the Red Rocks Golf Club in Morrison, Colorado. Lutheran Family Services provides adoption care, disaster response, foster care, older adult, family support and education, and refugee and immigration services. Your support helps LFS provide these vital community services!

RON LEIGHTON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This year’s Ron Leighton Memorial scholarship was awarded to Amelia Dundon! Amelia is driven, motivated, honest, and independent. She consistently shows integrity and respect for others. She strives to do good and make a difference in the world. She will put her scholarship to use studying engineering at CU Boulder! Congratulations, Amelia!

This week, Amelia shared a letter of thanks for the St. Peter community:

Dear Saint Peter Lutheran Church,

Thank you for prayerfully considering me for this scholarship. I especially wish to thank Ken and Laurie for all the hard work they put in in reading through my application. I also wish to extend my thanks to the Ron Leighton family and all the donors to the scholarship. Your generosity knows no bounds. But most importantly, I wish to thank the congregation for all the love and support everyone has shown me growing up. I couldn’t have asked for a better place or church. I’m excited to have finally graduated from Cherry Creek and I look forward to studying at CU this fall!

Sincerely, Millie

FRESH START FOR FAITH FORMATION: PRESCHOOL-5TH GRADE SUNDAY SCHOOL BEGINS SEPTEMBER 10

Ms. Mary and her team are excited to offer faith formation every week. After meeting with families and incorporating their feedback, here’s what’s new for 2023-2024:

  • New Curriculum, based on ELCA Lectionary

  • Children and helpers will leave worship and go to Fellowship Hall for learning based on the Gospel of the day. The group will return during the Passing of the Peace (approximately 25 minutes).

Planned Format:

  • Review the Gospel story just heard

  • Introduce the Theme/Focus

  • Small age-based groups for one or more of the following: discussion, craft, song, skit, drawing, writing, etc. in response to the Gospel

  • Take-home activity to bridge the Church-to-Household connection for conversation and continued activities for faith-building at home and beyond

  • Occasional whole-group planned outreach to the community

Please connect with Ms. Mary (mpratt@stplc.org) with your questions, concerns, ideas, or availability to help. She would love to hear from you!

LOOKING FOR LECTORS!

Lend your voice at worship. Adults, confirmation kids, elementary schoolers, high schoolers – all are welcome! Reading the Word of God aloud creates community, energizes the congregation, and helps to focus our hearts and minds on the passage. Please contact Ms. Mary (mpratt@stplc.org ) if you would like to sign up for a specific Sunday. Available dates include: November 19 and 26, and December 10.

RECYCLE YOUR CRAYONS

Did you know many crayons are made from a petroleum byproduct that is not biodegradable? Over 60,000,000 crayons are discarded in the U.S. annually. There is a box in the Narthex to collect broken and unwanted crayons. We are in friendly competition with other DTC churches and have until Thanksgiving to fill the bin!
