March 21, 2023, StPLC Events Update

Welcome, Pastor Mike!

The council is so excited to announce the official calling of Pastor Michael Jay Vinson as the new pastor of Saint Peter Lutheran Church! We welcome Pastor Mike, his wife, Holly, and their three children to our community.

Pastor Mike’s installation service and welcome reception will be Saturday, April 15th at 2 p.m. Bishop Gonia will lead the Service of Installation. Pastor Michael Mortvedt and Pastor Mike Vinson will co-lead the Worship Service on Sunday, April 16th. This will be Pastor Michael Mortvedt’s last Sunday as our Interim Minister. Please join us for a “thank you” reception immediately after the worship service on April 16th.

Wednesdays In Lent Mean Soup + Monologues

StPLC is hosting soup suppers every Wednesday in Lent at 6:00 p.m. before evening worship at 7:00 p.m. SOUP SUPPERS are potluck style, so look for the sign-up on the Narthex doors. All are invited whether you bring soup or not!

AND…back again this year by popular demand…each Wednesday evening service will include a monologue by one of the people who were present during the first Holy Week (as played by a Saint Peter actor). Here’s what we have coming up:

  • March 22 - The Mother of Judas; Karyl Meyer

  • March 29 - The Roman Centurion; Lee Dehmlow

LIFT During Lent

On the 2nd and 4th Sundays, all are invited to participate in LIFT (Living in Faith Together) down in the Fellowship Hall. For Lent, we are taking this special time for prayer and reflection to learn about contemplative practices. This coming Sunday we will look at Meditation and Music with Ms. Mary.

Special Opportunity For Readers On Palm Sunday

Do you love to share the Word? Are you curious to find out what it’s like to read Scripture during a Worship Service?

Now’s your chance! Sunday, April 2, is Palm Sunday and Pastor Michael is seeking 6-8 readers to read portions of the Passion of Jesus (Matthew 26:14-27:66). Whether you are onsite, online, just learning to read or have only been reading awhile, you are welcome to participate. If you are interested, let the church office know or add your name to the signup sheet in the Narthex.

Maundy Thursday News

During Holy Week on April 6, Saint Peter will host a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. Four of our young ones will celebrate their First Communion after completing their coursework last Saturday with Pastor Michael and Ms. Mary. Please plan to attend to help support!

Also, there will not be a Seder at 5:30 p.m. as was originally planned. The StPLC Council looks forward to working with leaders of a local synagogue to organize an interfaith education program to learn more about Jewish traditions, including Seders, at another time.

Easter Flowers This Year

The giving of Easter flowers is a way to remember someone and beautify Saint Peter during the Easter Season. To purchase Easter flowers this year (suggested donation of $10) mail your check to the Saint Peter Lutheran Church office or pay through Vanco at www.stplc.org/donate. You may designate your Easter flowers for the honor or memory of someone or for the glory of God. Deadline is Palm Sunday, April 2

Check Out The Family Ministries’ Lenten Calendar Devotional

If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. Isaiah 58:10

How are you doing with your Lenten calendar? It’s not too late to get started. There are plenty of calendars on the Family Ministries’ information board. Ms. Mary’s favorite activities for the week of March 19-25 include:

  • Make someone breakfast in bed.

  • Teach someone mindful hand breathing. Not sure? Ask a StPLC kiddo.

  • Call (or write/draw a note for) someone who lives alone.

Notice how it feels to do something for someone else. Write or draw about it and pop it in Ms. Mary’s mailbox, if you’d like to share.  And remember, keep marking off completed tasks on your Lenten Calendar. There is a surprise for all who return them after Lent to Ms. Mary!

All Ages Event Saturday, April 1 @ StPLC

Ms. Mary is excited to have you join her along with families from FIVE neighboring churches at Saint Peter on Saturday, April 1 from 5-7 p.m. This is an ALL-AGES event focusing on fun, faith and SERVICE.

We are expecting a HUGE turnout and are hopeful many from StPLC will be there to represent our community.

  • Meet guests from Christ in the City to learn about this amazing ministry and how we get to help those living on the street.

  • Mat-making from all of our collected plastic grocery bags.

  • Games and activities both inside and outside! Cornhole, anyone?

Please RSVP to ensure we have enough pizza and popcorn for all. Sign up online here, https://bit.ly/3yIVIUB, on the paper signup sheet on the Narthex doors, or by emailing Ms. Mary.

April 22 Is Property Day

The StPLC Property Team has scheduled a cleanup day for April 22 from 9-noon. We would appreciate the congregation's help with numerous projects including mulch to spread, rabbit brush to trim, needles to rake, flower beds to weed and litter to pick up. Our biggest priority is cleaning the entrance doors and windows throughout the building.

Everyone is welcome. If you would like to help, please bring rags, paper towels and window cleaner. If you have a special project you would like to do, please let us know and how we could help. Please contact Dave Prichard with questions.

Saint Peter Needs A Male Voting Member To Attend Synod Assembly

Synod Assemblies offer all of us an opportunity to discover and celebrate the breadth of what we do together as the Rocky Mountain Synod. This year, the Assembly will be held in El Paso, Texas, and will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16th. Wednesday will feature all-day border immersion experiences bookended by Bible study, education and plenty of time for questions and answers. The Assembly will conclude at noon on Thursday, May 18th.

The theme of this year's event is Cruzando Fronteras (means "crossing borders" in English), which offers an opportunity to be confronted by the gifts and challenges of ministry and mission on the southern border.

Saint Peter Lutheran Church is asked to send two lay voting members, one male and one female, to the Assembly each year. We are currently in need of a male voting member to volunteer. Saint Peter will cover your travel expenses. If you are interested in participating in this year’s Rocky Mountain Synod Assembly as a voting member, please contact Allison Summerton. Any and all are invited to attend the Assembly whether you choose to be a voting member or not. Registration details can be found online here: https://www.rmselca.org/assembly.
