SAINT PETER MINISTRY FAIR AND POTLUCK SEPT 24 AFTER SERVICE
Explore the many ways to get involved at Saint Peter and stay for a potluck and fellowship! Last names: A-H (main dish), I-R (side), S-Z (dessert). Browse the Ministry Fair between 10:15 a.m. and 10:55 a.m. and gather for the potluck around 11 a.m. Some reminders about food contributions: If you are bringing a hot dish, please cook it before you come. Ovens can be used to keep your dishes warm. For foods that need refrigeration, please bring them in a cooler until it is time for the meal, as there is little refrigerator space at church. See you there!
SAY CHEESE
Autumn always feels like a new beginning! This Sunday, September 24, we will have a group photo to commemorate a new year of gathering and being together.
THE SELIAN 5K WAS A SUCCESS!
Wow. The Waggoners ate their Wheaties before they showed up! And did you hear? Wesley Shull was the fastest 5 year old! Thank you to all the coordinators, participants, volunteers, sponsors, and folks who showed up to cheer.
FAITH FORUM CIVIL DISCOURSE SERIES STARTS OCT 1
From Pastor Mike:
“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1) In today’s world it feels like unity (even in Christ’s Church) is an impossible thing to obtain. Humans naturally group themselves with similar people and instinctively identify who and what is different as “other.” Add to this mix a culture that profits on the differences among us, and you end up with the great divide with which many of us are currently very familiar.
I believe, however, that Jesus would argue we can do better and that it’s not impossible to come together. We can acknowledge our human and sinful tendencies and then rely on our Christian teachings that give us:
- an order to love one another as Christ has first loved us.
- opportunities to be in open, respectful conversation with one another as if Jesus is also part of the conversation.
- the grace to say the wrong thing without judgement or acknowledge what you don’t understand. In fact, mistakes and misunderstandings are a chance to start again and strengthen communities.
On Sunday, October 1, right after Worship, high schoolers and adults are invited to participate in a Civil Discourse Series that will run for four straight Sundays right here at Saint Peter Lutheran Church.
Please plan to join me as we explore the materials created by an ecumenical group of faith leaders in 2018 to address the growing turmoil in our political landscape. My hope is that by working and learning together, the worshippers of Saint Peter will become a stronger and more united church with Christ as our sure foundation. This course will be rooted in scripture and bound together in prayer.
SUNDAY FUNDAY (PRE-K THROUGH 5TH GRADE)
This Sunday, we’ll learn about a surprising story of Vineyard Workers: “So the last will be first and the first will be last” (Matthew 20:16). Let's puzzle this out together and have fun too while we learn about Jesus!
Next week, October 1, we’ll learn about Jesus giving us second chances whenever we make mistakes. It’s about living with INTEGRITY in our everyday lives!
Grownups! Remember we are ALL learning about the same gospel lesson and there are family activities for at-home learning. Please ask your children about what they learned. They will have a paper that can generate conversation for the ride home, or anytime during the week. Please have your child bring back the sheet each week! If any household participating in Sunday Funday would like to have a Spark Bible to keep, let Ms. Mary know! (mpratt@stplc.org or 303-770-9300)
