ADVOCATING FOR THE LGBTQI+ COMMUNITY AT DENVER PRIDE

On June 25th, a group of StPLC folks went to Civic Center Park to join Bishop Gonia at the Denver Pride Festival to support equality and justice for all. Bishop Jim Gonia, Bishop Kym Lucas from The Episcopal Church in Colorado, and Bishop Karen Oliveto from the United Methodist Church invited all area Lutherans, Episcopalians, and Methodists to march with them in the Denver Pride Parade.

Four StPLC members, along with about a dozen other churches, represented the RMS-ELCA. Denver Pride first-timer Jeanne Maloney was amazed by the number of rainbow-clad spectators, the kindness and enthusiasm, and the sheer volume of the event! The parade announcer commented on the nearly 100 ecumenical marchers, noting that the group lived into its values of loving and caring for ALL. The StPLC contingent carried a handmade poster that summed up the call: “When hate is loud, LOVE must not be silent.”
