CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF DON DOEHLING
Friends and family gathered at Saint Peter on Thursday, August 24, to celebrate the life of Don Doehling. Don passed away on August 15, 2023, at the age of 91 after a long, loving, and storied life. His family shed tears, told stories, and laughed together. Thank you to all who held space for the family to remember, pray, and celebrate.

The family of Donald Doehling would like to thank the members of Saint Peter for your prayers, kind words, cards, flowers, and food received for the passing of our Dad. A special thank you to Pastor Mike for such a personal and meaningful funeral service, to Lynn Sherpe for assisting, to Beryl and Arielle Fanslow Wilson for the beautiful music, to the women of Saint Peter for the wonderful reception, to the tech team for getting the service on Zoom, and especially to Lynn Sherpe for taking care of every little detail. Our Saint Peter family has been a true blessing during this difficult time.

SAINT PETER WOMEN’S RETREAT OCT 26-28
The Second Annual Saint Peter Lutheran Women’s Retreat is at the gorgeous Rainbow Trail mountain ministry center. Enjoy the wonder of being immersed in God’s creation.
The retreat is Thursday, October 26 to Saturday, October 28. Carpooling will be available from Saint Peter at 12:00 p.m. on October 26. The first session will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday and conclude by noon on Saturday. The cost of the retreat is $150 per person. This includes 2 nights of accommodations and all meals. SELIAN 5K ON SEPTEMBER 16
Walk or run through the neighborhood in support of Selian Lutheran Hospital and affiliated programs. Check-in begins at 7:15 a.m. on Saturday, September 16. The 5k begins and ends at Saint Peter Lutheran Church (9300 E. Belleview Avenue, Greenwood Village). Register online or grab a paper signup in the narthex. Can’t be there in person? SAINT PETER SPELUNKERS VENTURE UNDERGROUND

When the “crawl space” comes up in conversation, you can see the trepidation take over. Rugged men in their 60s sheepishly inquire about spiders and mud and dark spaces. It’s not a place you visit casually, though it could be the best representation around of a true “man cave.”
In reality, this is commonly where you go to work on the building’s piping, wiring and HVAC systems. During the May - June storms, the water table rose and flooded the crawl space under the Worship Center. Two sump pumps installed years ago to get rid of the rising water didn’t work, and the water knocked out the A/C and furnace units installed as part of our Phase 1 replacement plan. We called in Paul Davis Restoration to pump out the water and install fans to help dry out what was now a swamp. A few days later, another storm flooded the space again and we started over.

Weeks later, the crawl space is finally dry enough for the company to mitigate for mold and mildew, and lay down a heavy plastic vapor barrier. To create the best environment for spreading the plastic, Paul Davis asked us to remove a good bit of forgotten material stored there, including green, blue and red hymnals, and obsolete computer equipment.

On Aug. 26, a group of rugged men in their 60s put their fears aside, stepped down a ladder into the dark and dusty tunnel and did the job in an hour. Mike Sherpe, Steve Haigh, Will Beals, Jerry Paul, Dave Prichard, Pastor Mike Vinson, Alan Greene, Jim Bunke, Steve Leighton and Jerry Mayer loaded up Leighton’s pickup with discarded materials and placed the contents in a roll-off at the back of the Saint Peter parking lot. Another testament to teamwork and fellowship!
