TRANSITION TEAM UPDATES

Saint Peter, your participation so far in this Season of Transition has fueled some wonderful conversations and reflection. Thank you! So far we have discussed the "Rivers" and "Wilderness" throughout the history of Saint Peter. We have also celebrated our individual and collective gifts that make Saint Peter such a welcoming, hospitable, service-minded and faithful place. The Transition Team has been busy charting the next step for our reflections.

Now as we contemplate where God is leading us, we are tasked with exploring our values as a congregation and examining the mission and vision of Saint Peter. A mission statement defines an organization’s purpose; what we do, our overall objective. (Google's mission, for example, is "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful.") A vision statement, on the other hand, describes our long-term aspirations. (For instance, the Alzheimer’s Association envisions "A world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.") Together, a mission and vision provide a framework for decision-making and direction. This is your opportunity to study the mission and vision of Saint Peter in the context of our congregational values.

For the sake of preparing for future conversations and reflection, please carefully read the current mission and vision statement. Prayerfully ponder if we as a congregation can live more fully into the call spelled out in these directives; do these ideals match our goals, values, and direction? Please meditate on how we can best journey together where God is calling us. The loving conversations sparked by your contemplation will help present an authentic, comprehensive picture of Saint Peter. Thank you for your support, patience and participation!

GRACE RACE - OCTOBER 5

Rainbow Trail is hosting the 17th annual 5K run/walk in Denver to help support the ELCA World Hunger Program. Come join us for a great afternoon of fun, exercise, and a great party with food afterwards. There will be a traveling trophy for the “Fleetest Flock" - the congregation with the most participants. Race starts at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5th. Register today!

RAINBOW TRAIL REGISTRATION OPENS NOVEMBER 1!

Registration for youth camps, summer family camps, and Labor Day Family Weekend opens November 1st. Registrations will be received on a first come, first served basis.

COVENANT CUPBOARD OPPORTUNITY - SEPT 28

King Soopers at Belleview and Yosemite will offer a live food drive on Saturday, September 28th where we staff a table and collect donations from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. If you are interested in helping with this, please connect with Laura (guthals@msn.com).

GUNS TO GARDENS - SAFE SURRENDER OCTOBER 19

Montview Presbyterian and Temple Micah will co-host a safe-surrender program at Montview (1980 Dahlia Street in Denver) from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, in which gun owners may voluntarily surrender their firearms to be repurposed. Pieces from decommissioned firearms will be forged into life-giving tools: garden tools, jewelry and art objects. Guns to Gardens is a community of faith working to reduce gun violence in the Denver Metro area. Mike Martin, a minister-turned-blacksmith who created the Guns to Gardens concept, will be on site to ensure a safe and successful event. Please contact Jeanne Dallman (jeannedallman@gmail.com) with any questions.

SAVE YOUR POP TOPS

The Ronald McDonald House serves as a "home away from home" for many folks with hospitalized children. The Pop Tab Recycling Program is an easy way to support this valuable resource. Simply pull off your beverage can tabs or soup tops (anything with a pull tab!) and bring them to church! We will collect them in a large jar in the narthex for delivery and recycling.
