Community Service as a Core Component of Christian Life

Pastor Dave Risendal and Faith Formation Leader Jeanne Maloney recently wrote a three-part series on community service as a core component of Christian life. These articles were intended to coincide with the StPLC’s High School Youth Group’s service trip to Anapra, Mexico (June 23-29). Click the links to access each one.

Day Camp Next Week

A team of Rainbow Trail counselors will join u next week for Day Camp. Each day goes from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.(11:30 a.m. for pre-k) and follows the “I AM; WE ARE” theme, which provides campers the opportunity to reflect on who Jesus is, and the difference he makes in our lives.

If you know of families who have pre-school and/or elementary school-aged children, encourage them to sign up and attend this week of faith development and fellowship. Registration forms are available in the Narthex and on the StPLC website!

When you see the guys, be sure to thank them for their efforts.

Selian Fundraising Update

Through June 30, 2019, Saint Peter raised $16,115 to support the ministries in Tanzania. These generous donations were received from members/friends of StPLC and from the net proceeds of the annual Selian 5K Run/Walk that was held on June 8th. Since our relatioship began in 2003, we have sent donations to Selian Lutheran Hospital, ALMC and the Plaster House totaling $269,521!

We were honored to receive another visit from Dr. Mark and Linda Jacobson, retired missionaries from Arusha, Tanzania, on May 14th. The Jacobsons are no longer involved in fulltime missionary work, but they seem to be as dedicated to this ministry as ever.

In fact, Dr. Jacobson sent us a video greeting to share with the walkers / runners at the Selian 5K (above).

Small Group Women’s Book Review July 22nd

Calling all Saint Peter women! This is a great opportunity to explore a fresh look at sexuality in religion presented through Nadia Bolz-Weber’s latest book, Shameless: A Sexual Reformation. Read the book and meet to share and discuss! Bethany Laurie will host the event at her home on July 22nd at 7:00 p.m. Please contact Bethany for details and questions.

Summer Break for All-Ministry Team Night

The July and August All-Ministry Team Nights are canceled to accommodate busy summer schedules. Ministry groups are encouraged to meet on their own these next couple months and to attend the first meeting of the program year on September 5th at 7:00 p.m. These evenings are a helpful way for Saint Peter Ministry Teams to coordinate efforts and to bring StPLC activities to the next level. Please mark your calendars and make it a priority for the 2019-2020 year.
