Saint Peter MOPS at South by Southeast Festival
Tomorrow, Saturday, August 16th, members of the Saint Peter MOPS group will be on-site at the South by Southeast Festival all day! The festival is an annual event that takes place in southeast Denver’s Bible Park and features food trucks, live music, family activies and — new this year thanks to MOPS — a changing station and a nursing station for moms and dads of young children.
Congratulations on 35 Years, Pastor Dave
This Sunday during both worship services, in honor of Pastor Dave’s 35th anniversary as an ordained Lutheran Pastor, we will take the time to recognize his commitment to faith and to the Saint Peter Congregation.
Sign Up This Sunday for the First Theater and Theology Show of the Season
The new season of Theater and Theology will start up again in September. Theater and Theology is a ministry of the Rocky Mountain Synod in which participating congregations enjoy a special arrangement with the Theater Company of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA), where after viewing a performance together we engage cast members in a moderated talkback on theological issues in each play. All Saint Peter members are invited to join in a fun night out at the theater together. We receive a reduced ticket price of just $35 per performance. All performances are on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m.
The first play of the new season is “Indecent”, on Tuesday, September 10th at 6:30 p.m. in the Space Theater (in-the-round). If you are interested in participating, please sign up on the sheet on the door in the Narthex before Sunday, August 18th. Once we have our group, we will make plans for dinner and carpooling.
September 12th Event for Project Education South Sudan
Join Project Education South Sudan (PESS) for a night of education, food, celebration and giving in support of its programming. Former Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet will speak about the role of education in bringing peace to developing countries, including South Sudan. PESS Executive Director Daniel Majok Gai will share updates on the high school girl students in South Sudan. Master of Ceremonies, Tamara Banks, will share her experience on seeing education transform nations.
New Ministry Profile: Saint Peter Stitchers
For over 10 years, Saint Peter has been home to the Saint Peter Stitchers, a group of 12 or so ladies (and occasionally a couple of men) who gather in the church Narthex the third Saturday of the month from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Click here to learn more and to see a video featuring the stitchers.
Household Items Needed For Refugee Friends
This summer, a few Saint Peter members have volunteered their time with Lutheran Family Services to walk alongside refugees from Congo. The work has included taking children to the zoo or museum, driving those in need of a ride to doctor’s appointments and pitching in wherever else it is needed. Currently, several of these families are without furniture, so the volunteers are seeking gently used (or new) microwaves, small dressers and end tables. If you are able to help out, contact Karne Bieghle.
Rainbow Trail Fly Fishing Retreat
It’s that time again. Let’s gear up for the annual Men’s Fly Fishing Retreat, September 19-22, 2019 at Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp! Experience a weekend of faith renewal, fellowship and fishing! Hearty meals, worship, and camaraderie around the campfire will be woven into the weekend so all can come away renewed spiritually, mentally and physically. The Arkansas River is only minutes from Rainbow Trail and offers world class fly fishing. Ark Anglers, a local guiding company, will give a presentation on current river conditions at the beginning of the weekend.
Fishermen from novice to expert are encouraged to come for this fabulous weekend. Rental equipment and professional guide services are available. To learn more visit www.rainbowtrail.org/retreats/fly-fishing. Scholarships are available for anyone in need of financial assistance.
Covenant Cupboard Toy Project Leader Needed
Saint Peter hosts the Covenant Cupboard Christmas gift project every year, assisted by the other churches who sponsor the Covenant Cupboard food pantry. On Friday, December 6th and Friday, December 13th, parents will come and select a gift and a stuffed stocking for each child age 12 and under so that they may give their children presents at Christmas. It’s a project that brings great joy to client families as well as those who host the distribution!
We’re looking for at least two leaders for this project, or we may be unable to host it this year. Karyl Meyer will mentor the leaders and provide many materials and contacts to help the distribution run smoothly. Please consider helping lead this wonderful Christmas gift project. Call Karyl to learn more about it.
