For over 10 years, Saint Peter has been home to the Saint Peter Stitchers, a group of 12 or so ladies (and occassionally a couple of men) who gather in the church Narthex the third Saturday of the month from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Together, the Saint Peter Stitchers crochet and knit prayer shawls and blankets for church members and their family and friends who are celebrating baptisms or are needing comfort from grief, illness or another life struggle. In fact, in 2018, the Saint Peter Stitchers, Stephen Ministers and staff distributed 23 prayer shawls and blankets, each of which is accompanied by a special prayer printed on a laminated card.
According to Susan Greene, the ministry leader, several blankets are completed every month. The inventory includes shawls and blankets of all sizes, colors and softness.
Of course, on the regular stitching Saturdays there’s some fellowship and teaching going on, too. Many stitchers come with projects they are working on to get feedback from the other folks in the group. People of all stitching ability - even beginners! - are invited to join in.
Donations of yarn are welcomed, and if you’d like to give a prayer shawl or blanket to someone you know, contact the church office.
