Spring 2020 Faith Formation Opportunities

There are two opportunities starting up this next week. Please join in for some faithful study and conversation.

Faith Forum Is Back - Starting April 19 at 10:30 a.m.

I don’t know about you, but I have really missed engaging in our Faith Forum weekly conversations, and I am ready to be back together again.  Starting the Sunday after Easter, Faith Forum will take place at 10:30 a.m. on the same zoom link we use for worship. Our discussion will be based on Rob Bell’s book Love Wins: A Book About Heaven, Hell, and the Fate of Every Person Who Ever Lived

When the book was released it was quite controversial and made many Christians uncomfortable, some even accused Bell of being a Universalist.  As has become the tradition of Faith Forum, the participants may not agree with everything that the author has to say or even with one another, and that is ok.  This is an opportunity to seriously engage in tough questions about reconciling God’s love and God’s judgment.

One of the big topics we will discuss is whether or not God selects a few to go to heaven and everyone else to suffer forever in hell.  Are you ready?

Please order a copy of the book (it is available at Barnes & Noble and Amazon) or download it to your favorite device and join the conversation. If you haven’t had a chance to join Faith Forum before, a special invitation goes out to you.

About Love Wins

Author, pastor, and innovative teacher Rob Bell presents a deeply biblical vision for rediscovering a richer, grander, truer, and more spiritually satisfying way of understanding heaven, hell, God, Jesus, salvation, and repentance.  The result is the discovery that the “good news” is much better than we ever imagined.

Easter Season Book Study - Online Thursday Evenings beginning April 23rd

Let’s take a journey together during the season of Easter into Jesus’ last week prior to his crucifixion using as our guide Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan’s book, The Last Week: What the Gospels Really Teach About Jesus’ Final Days in Jerusalem.  Borg and Crossan dig into Mark’s account of Jesus’ life with a day-by-day account of the week leading up to Easter, including insights into the political and spiritual dynamics of Jesus’ true passion – his message of the Kingdom of God.

This is a great book study for anyone who wants to deepen their relationship with Jesus and to prompt new discoveries of themselves and their journey with Christ.  The study will take place on-line Thursday evenings from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm beginning April 23rd on the same Zoom link used for worship. There will be a time for teaching at the beginning of the class so reading the book is not mandatory.

The class will be led by a joint effort of Walt Meyer and Jeanne Maloney.  If you are interested in participating, please RSVP to Jeanne Maloney to receive more information.  Please order a copy of the book (it is available at Barnes & Noble and Amazon) or download it to your favorite device.

About The Last Week:

Borg and Crossan base most of The Last Week from Mark’s gospel, which is the earliest recorded telling of Jesus’ events. Readers studying modern Christianity are presented with information in a straightforward way, without compromising the complex political and religious realities of that time. This book proves unique in its thoughtfulness, as it does not simply describe or transcribe events in Jesus’ life for purposes of the modern Christianity chronology. Rather, The Last Week serves as an investigation into, and an exploration of the things that Jesus cared for most.

From Brian McLaren:

“Readers across the spectrum will be challenged, educated, stretched, and perhaps disturbed (in a constructive way) by this important, fascinating, and well-written book.”
