Selian 5K Run/Walk This Saturday, Sept 11th

Registration for Saint Peter’s annual Selian 5k will remain open until this Friday at 5:00 p.m. Click here to sign up and plan to be in the Saint Peter parking lot bright and early this Saturday morning beginning at 8:00 a.m.

There are no physical registration forms this year, but if you really prefer to pay by check or cash, register online and then exit without paying. If this does not work, email Terri Mohrhaus (mohrhaust@gmail.com) to get on the list. You can pay on the day of the event.

The Run/Walk is our big push for God’s Work. Our Hands. this year, and it is a great opportunity for us to gather together safely outside and enjoy our beautiful Greenwood Village community while supporting an important ministry in Tanzania.

Fun For Kids, Too!

If a child doesn’t want to do the run/walk with parents or grandparents, they are welcome to stay behind with Miss Mary - and helpers - to enjoy the playground, make chalk pictures, toss water balloons, paint a rock, make a stress ball, create slime to take home and other fun stuff.

Plaster House Donations

We will be collecting items for The Plaster House, a ministry affiliated with Selian Lutheran Hospital, which will be taken to Arusha, Tanzania in October.  Items most needed for the children include:

  • art supplies

  • underwear

  • socks

  • leggings

Blessing Of The Backpacks This Sunday, Sept 12th

This Sunday, September 12th, bring your backpack to outdoor worship or have it with you on Zoom worship so we can bless you and your backpack!  We would love to include ALL ages!

If you teach or work in a school setting, or teach faith formation, or teach English to refugees, or tutor/teach a skill to others, and so on, bring your laptop bag or travel bag or any item you’d like blessed.  Or just come as you are and let us bless you.

Summer BINGO is over! Miss Mary will distribute prizes at the end of outdoor worship on Sunday, September 12!  If you participated, you will also be recognized at Zoom worship that same day, too.

Faith In Action’s Focus On Environmental Justice

This week’s featured tip:

Have you heard the news? The Colorado legislature passed a bill in February to charge 10 cents for every paper or plastic bag used at most grocery stores, retailers and restaurants beginning in 2023. A total ban on single-use plastic bags and polystyrene containers for takeout food begins in 2024. Learn more in this article.

Miss Mary’s Featured Picture Book: Simple Tips For Helping Our Earth

Don’t Throw That Away! by Lara Bergen is one of many picture books in the ENVIRONMENT section of Miss Mary’s picture book list on the Saint Peter website. Most books listed are available in local libraries. Click here to discover a new favorite read-aloud.

Don’t Throw That Away! suggests ways of reusing things rather than tossing them. You probably do many of them, like:

  • Using big boxes to make cars, buildings and towns.

  • Playing dress-up with clothing, hats, shoes, and accessories that people in your household are no longer wearing.

But have you ever tried turning a milk jug into a bird feeder?!?!?!

This lift-the-flap book is especially fun for our youngest environmentalists! There is a copy of the book in the outside bin for you to borrow. Return it when you are finished and we can share it with others. Hey! Sharing books is another way to help our earth!

Men’s Fly Fishing Retreat Sept 16-19th

Join Pastor Dave and experience a weekend of faith renewal, fellowship and fishing! Hearty meals, worship, and camaraderie around the campfire will be woven into the weekend so all can come away renewed spiritually, mentally and physically.

The Arkansas River is only minutes from Rainbow Trail and offers world-class fly fishing. Ark Anglers, a local guiding company, will give a presentation on current river conditions at the beginning of the weekend.

Fishermen from novice to expert are encouraged to come for this fabulous weekend. Rental equipment and professional guide services are available. Learn more at https://www.rainbowtrail.org/retreats/fly-fishing/.

What’s Happening With Sunday School At Saint Peter?

We worship a God who promises to be “making all things new” (Revelation 21:5), and we believe that God is guiding us into an entirely new way to share our faith with people of all ages this Fall at Saint Peter.

Last school year we were blessed to have the Strezo family produce online lessons and skits (and those are all still available online: https://www.stplc.org/sunday-school), but this school year plans are in the works to do something different that will keep our youngest members and friends connected in a way that is safe and engaging -- and includes all ages! BONUS!

The Family Ministries Team is looking at following a program produced by GenOn Ministries. It has an intentional focus on intergenerational activities, where gatherings include at least two generations. You might also think of it as passing faith ON to the next GENerations.

All the details are getting ironed out, and we hope to launch in October. Stay tuned for more information! And if you’d like to be part of the Family Ministries planning committee, contact Miss Mary.
