Bishop Jim Gonia, the elected leader of the Rocky Mountain Synod of the ELCA, a five-state region that includes 160 Lutheran congregations, will visit Saint Peter Lutheran Church to celebrate Reformation Sunday — a day when we honor Dr. Martin Luther and his colleagues who, some 500 years ago, brought a new life and vitality to the Christian church.
The Rev. Jim Gonia has served as the Rocky Mountain Synod’s Bishop since his election in 2012. In 2018 he was re-elected to a second term as our bishop. Having served as a missionary in Madagascar, as a parish pastor, and in ELCA Churchwide Ministries, Bishop Gonia brings an expansive view of what it means to be the church. His ministry is guided by our mission statement: Christ's Church, Better Together.
He will greet the congregation during a 9:00 a.m. worship service, lead us as we celebrate the Eucharist, and then guide us through an interactive exercise that is designed to help us explore what gifts the Lutheran Church has to offer to the world today. As Saint Peter is considering what might help us to experience new life and vitality in our life together, we expect that this conversation with our Bishop will provide some insights about what our future might hold.
Please put October 27th on your calendars:
