Look What We’ve Done. Imagine What We’ll Do.

Worship stands at the very heart of who we are Saint Peter Lutheran Church. It is one of the first ways newcomers come to know us, and for many, it continues to be one of the most profound ways to experience our community of faith.

During the past year, we faced many challenges in our worship life. With your strong support, our team discovered how to gather without a building, how to present music from our Worship Band, how to involve more worship leaders than ever before, how to connect people in small group conversations, and how to continue worshipping in a way that connects and re-connects the worshipper with God, and deepens the fellowship we share as God’s people.

Now as we move back towards gathering together in one place again, we are investing in equipment, improved internet access, and training for our team to offer a truly hybrid experience for the congregation — one in which the online worshipper is fully involved and fully included in what takes place.

This central time of worship will be an important way that we unite our congregation once again, and renew our relationships with one another. A strong show of support from our congregation through this Appeal will enable Saint Peter to bounce back from the pandemic stronger and more vibrant than before.

Please plan to worship with us on November 14, as commit ourselves to God’s work through this congregation in 2022.

Sincerely,
Your 2022 Stewardship Team Darlene Beals, Jim Bunke, Shawn O'Keefe, Pastor Dave Risendal and President Bruce Stokes

New Faith Forum Series Underway

This last Sunday, we began the fall semester of Faith Forum with a six-week series entitled, "Earthbound; Created + Called to Care for Creation.” Together we will explore God’s call for us to live as caretakers of creation. Participants of all ages are welcome either in-person in the Worship Center or online via Zoom at 9:00 a.m.

Saint Peter Has New Nametags

If you attend in-person worship, check your mailbox for your NEW NAMETAG. If it's not there, check again next week. (The new printer takes a while and we are printing in batches.) If you notice a typo, lose your nametag or would like to request one for a family member or guest, please reach out to the church office.

Progress On The New Narthex ‘Connection Center’

If you attend in-person worship, you might notice something is different in the Narthex. The Communications Team is in the process of creating a brand new “Connection Center” where you can easily find info about ministry activities, scan a QR code for that week’s newsletter, chat with a host or a Zoom worshipper (once we are fully setup for hybrid worship), leave your offering, get a nametag printed, and more! Stay tuned! We hope to have the Connection Center complete by the end of the year.

Help One Afghan Family Cover The Cost Of Rent

The Saint Peter Lutheran Church Faith In Action team is partnering up with Lutheran Family Services to help in the resettlement of our Afghanistan neighbors in the Denver Metro area.  We will be assigned one family to help welcome and provide assistance as they get settled. As co-sponsor, we will get an opportunity to get to know the family and form a friendship with them.

There are many ways you can help and we will be sending out more information in the coming weeks. Our first big need is to raise up to $10,000 to help the family with rent while the family looks for employment.

Covenant Cupboard Christmas Toy Drive

Saint Peter will once again be participating in the Covenant Cupboard Christmas Toy Drive that will be taking place on December 3 and 10 at Saint Peter. This year’s drive will be set up as a store for parents, like in years past. Last year was different because of COVID.

Be on the lookout for the signup form in this coming Sunday’s newsletter.

Lift Is Launched!

65 people of ALL ages have begun the Saint Peter Intergenerational Faith Formation journey called LIFT! We have nine facilitators leading six groups, which includes participants from the ages of one to over 90! We look forward to sharing some of our learning from this experience during worship in late November. There will be an opportunity to sign up for the next LIFT, which takes place in December! We’ll be focusing on Advent (of course!). Any questions? Just contact Miss Mary.

Faith In Action’s Focus On The Environment: You Can Make A Difference With Food!

Thank you to Shelly Hunter for sharing her community newsletter (the Lowry Aviator), which included a more thorough version of this article. Here are the highlights.

There are significant consequences to [food] waste, both financially and environmentally. According to the book American Wasteland: How America Throws Away Nearly Half of Its Food (and What We Can Do About It), the average American family spends approximately $2,220 per year on food that is never eaten. According to the UN, if food waste were a country, it would be the third-highest global greenhouse gas emitter behind China and the U.S. REDUCING FOOD WASTE IS ONE OF THE TOP THREE WAYS TO REVERSE CLIMATE CHANGE.

  • Only buy what you need and eat what you buy before you buy new.

  • Plan out meals for the week. Make a list and stick to it.

  • At the Farmers' Market, ask for "seconds." This less-than-perfect produce is often sold at a discount. (King Soopers has a shelf for bruised produce sold at a discount, too.)

  • Buy local, in-season produce to reduce the amount of food lost to long-distance travel conditions.

  • Track and manage the food in your home with the No Waste app.

  • l Almost any food can be frozen. Make your freezer into a warrior against food waste.

  • When eating out, bring your own leftover food container.

  • If you know of someone who owns a restaurant or is in food service, ask them to check out https://www.wedontwaste.org/.
